CLASSES, LECTURES AND WORKSHOPS

Learn How to Identify Trees with Morten Moesswilde, Midcoast district forester for the Maine forest Service. Tuesday, September 22 from 2:30 - 4:30 p.m. Moesswilde will present a tree identification talk & walk. An indoor presentation is followed by a walk around the park to practice identification techniques. Cost: $5 (FREE for children and Merryspring members)

Fall Watercolor Class with Lesia Sochor: Two 4-class sessions on Thursdays from 9 AM to noon.  Session 1 classes run 9/24-10/15 and Session 2 classes run 10/29-11/19. The cost for each 4-class session is $150, or $135 for members. Class size is limited and pre-registration is required.  Students will learn technical skills like edge control, tonal values and composition while being encouraged to discover personal style and creative interpretation.

Autumn Maintenance for the Perennial Garden with Wendy Andresen: Tuesday, October 6; 12 p.m. Labor Day is not the end of the gardening season!   Learn how to prepare plants for colder weather while coaxing autumn color from your perennials. The cost for this program is $5, Merryspring members attend free.  This is an outdoor demonstration and participants are encouraged to dress for the weather.

Trees:  September 27, 1-3pm
Trees provide us with food, warmth, shelter, shade … and so much more!  Come meet the trees in Merryspring’s forest and learn how to identify some of Maine’s common varieties.

Art, Nature & Design:  Garden exhibition of the work of sculptress Antje Roitzsch.  Take a stroll and enjoy how her abstract, organic pieces interact with the forms of nature.

Home Energy Audit Demonstration with Eric Evans:  Saturday, October 3, 9-11:30am.  Get an in-depth understanding of residential energy audits.  Building Performance Analyst Evans will give a brief introduction followed by a complete demonstration energy audit of Merryspring’s Ross Center

All-Hallows Eve Enchanted Forest, co-sponsor Ashwood Waldorf School:  Saturday, October 31, Sunset.  A chance for wee sprites and goblins to be guided through a jack-o-lantern lit wood filled with fairytale vignettes and to enjoy twilight refreshments in the garden. 

Merryspring’s family programs are offered free of charge.
Activities are designed for ages 5-12, but are open to all ages.
Children must be accompanied by an adult.

Holiday Bazaar: Saturday, December 5th from 10:00 AM to 4:00 PM . Each year during Christmas By The Sea weekend we offer a variety of plants, greens, wreaths, live arrangements and lots of exciting gifts for holiday giving and decorating. Pay special attention to the "Members Only" date of Thursday, December 3rd, from 2:00 - 7:00 PM.
