Tuesdays, through August 31 ~ Tuesday Talks: Merryspring's Lecture Series features a different speaker each Tuesday at Noon on a variety of nature-related topics such as gardening, tree identification, heirloom plants, sustainable landscaping, composting and much more. Talks are free for members; $5.00 non-members. Saturday, April 24 ~ Astronomy Evening: 8 p.m. to 10 p.m. co-sponsored by the Central Maine Astronomical Society. Mark your calendar for this annual event when astronomers share their joy of astronomy with people of all ages. Thursdays, April 29 - May 20 ~ Watercolor Painting with Lesia Sochor 9:00 a.m. - Noon. Students from beginners to experienced will learn technical skills like edge control, tonal values and composition while being encouraged to discover personal style and creative interpretation. Saturday, June 5 ~GPS Workshop (time and cost TBA) with Morten Moesswilde, Maine District Forester. GPS can do so much more than guide your car travel. Learn how to use satellite technology to guide you off road, to map trails, to manage a forest, and more. Wednesday, June 16 ~ "Lurking in the Trees": 4 p.m. A 30-minute documentary about the devastating effect of the Asian longhorn beetle in Worchester, MA, followed by a Q&A about invasive species in Maine with District Forester Morten Moesswilde. This event is free and open to the public. Wednesday, June 23 ~ What's Bugging You? time TBA, co-sponsored by Knox County Soil & Water District. Entomologist Mark Darlington will be on hand to discuss problem insects and their control. This event is free and the public is invited to bring samples for identification. Friday, July 23 ~ Designing Continuously-Blooming Gardens 10 a.m. - 2 p.m. with Lee Schneller. The workshop will begin with a PowerPoint slideshow of gardens, followed by hands-on practice at designing a garden. Participants will learn Schneller Sligh's five-step blueprint technique for designing perennial gardens that bloom over three full seasons. The required text, The Ever Blooming Flower Garden by Lee Schneller, may be purchased through Merryspring upon registration for $19.95 (members receive 10% discount). Pre-registration is required and space is limited. $40 non-members; $30 members. Sundays, July - September ~ A Course on Identifying Wild Mushrooms with Greg Marley. July 25; August 22; September 12; October 3, Sunday, August 1 ~ Daylily Day: workshops, daylily division, hybridizing and more! Details to come. Wednesday, August 4 ~ Merryspring’s Annual Kitchen Tour: Sunday, October 31 ~ All Hallows Eve Enchanted Forest: at around 4:00 p.m. a chance for wee sprites and goblins to be guided through a jack-o-lantern lit wood filled with fairytale vignettes, and to enjoy twilight refreshments in the garden.
