This new addition to a petite Rockport cottage is a combination kitchen/dining room/living room, brightened

with a ceiling open to the rafters, walls painted in two shades of sunny yellow, and white beadboard throughout.

Book designer Harrah Lord reused her old kitchen cabinets, adding updates like a spice/tea drawer, tray cabinet,

and a lazy Susan. She transformed her refrigerator with a coat of yellow paint and new door pulls, and tucked it

under attractive open shelves. Bottle-green Guatemalan marble counters and rustic red birch flooring and

counter trim lend color and texture. Lovely family antiques and portraits will catch your eye.

LOOK FOR: Recessed ribbon windows that offer light and privacy; matching, subtle curves on counters and the step into the kitchen.
