5 Susan Hoguet CHEF AM: Laura Cabot Catering, Waldoboro CHEF PM: Cappy's Chowder House, Camden In 1800, every kitchen had a fireplace, and this beautifully restored Cape (one of the oldest in Camden) still has one—in addition to a modern oven, of course. Both the fireplace and the oven hood and backsplash are clad in wonderful tiles designed by home owner Susan Hoguet. A timbered ceiling, original King pine floors and wainscoting, metal lantern-style lights, pine cabinets with cast-iron hardware, and oriental rugs all harken back to the era when this kitchen was first in use. The sense of that earlier time continues into the adjoining dining room, dimly lit with massive brass candlesticks on the table. LOOK FOR: The Paris-inspired cobblestone pattern on the patio as you enter, and the well-used butcher’s table in the kitchen.
