Summer Ecology Camp

**2020 SUMMER ECOLOGY CAMPS CANCELED**

In the best interest of public health and safety for families during
the COVID-19 pandemic, Merryspring Nature Center and Knox-Lincoln Soil &
Water Conservation District will be canceling their popular joint Summer
Ecology Camps for 2020. This includes both Eco-Explorers and Little
Sprouts camps, which were scheduled for the weeks of July 6 and July 20,
respectively.

It is the decision of both organizations that the hands-on, experiential
activities of Summer Ecology Camps may not lend themselves safely to
social-distancing guidelines, and in the interest of the health of our
young campers and staff both programs are canceled. Merryspring and
KLSWCD staffers will miss seeing excited campers this season,
some of whom have attended for several years.

In lieu of Summer Ecology Camps, Merryspring will offer some free alternative
programs for families and children this summer that can be conducted
outdoors in a safe way. These will include our popular Free Family
Fridays as well as another alternative program for independent learning
and discovery to be announced at a later date.

2020 Summer Ecology Camps

Summer Ecology Camps are offered through a partnership with Knox-Lincoln Soil & Water Conservation District. Two sessions of part-day camp are offered for different age groups. They are:

Eco-Explorers

Ages 7 – 9
8:45 am – 12:00 pm

Little Sprouts

Ages 4 – 6
9:00 am – 11:30 am

Summer Ecology Camps provide exciting, outdoor nature experiences for young children. Through gardening, games, experiments, and observation campers enjoy an introduction to ecology and the natural world in these part-day camps. During these part-day outdoor, exploration-based nature and environmental science camps, young students enjoy nature hikes, daily gardening, outdoor experiments, games, and lessons on plants, animals, weather, and natural resources.

Exo-Explorers is for children ages 7 to 9 who are looking to explore the natural world, conduct experiments and get up-close-and-personal with the plants, insects, and animals in their Maine backyards.

Little Sprouts is great for younger campers ages 4 to 6 who love to be outdoors, discover the world around them, play outdoor games, and get creative.

Camps take place at Merryspring Nature Center at 30 Conway Road in Camden.
