In this program Denise DeSpirito will speak about some of the most accessible herbal medicine available – the medicine of trees. This talk will cover the medicinal properties of some native and non-native trees that grow in the midcoast area and how to harvest ethically and responsibly from them. Guests will learn which species grow in Merryspring’s Kitty Todd Arboretum so that they may search for them on their next walk in in the woods. Tree species discussed will include linden, white pine, willow, hawthorn, and more.
DeSpirito is a gardener and herbalist. She has grown herbs all over the Northeast, including Avena Botanicals in Rockport, Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in New York, and Farmacy Herbs in Rhode Island, and is Merryspring’s Gardens Manager.
