Gardener Denise DeSpirito leads a presentation on the herbal uses of the Fabaceae family of plants at Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, August 14 at 12:00 pm.
The program will review the distinguishing botanical characteristics that help identify plants in the Fabaceae family, known as legumes, as well as attributes such as growing conditions and herbal actions that are similar throughout all legumes. Denise will discuss a variety of plants in this family, like Astragalus and red clover, how to plant and care for them, as well as their herbal uses.
DeSpirito is gardener and herbalist. She has grown herbs all over the North East, including Avena Botanicals in Rockport, Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in New York, and Farmacy Herbs in Rhode Island. She currently serves as Garden Manager at Merryspring.
