Maine’s forests offer an opportunity to sustainably collect many gourmet edible and medicinal mushrooms. Greg Marley leads this day-long class to build the skills to identify common mushrooms, including well-known edibles, poisonous species, and useful medicinal varieties. The program will combine both lecture and outdoor experience to give beginners a crash course in identification, morphology, fungus ecology, collection, preparation and cooking, and recognizing mushroom habitat.
Marley has been collecting, studying, eating, growing, and teaching about mushrooms for over 40 years. He is the founder of Mushrooms for Health, as well as the author of Mushrooms for Health from Downeast Books, 2009 and Chanterelle Dreams, Amanita Nightmares from Chelsea Green, 2010. Greg is also a clinical social worker and behavioral health consultant specializing in suicide prevention.
