Backyard Herbalism: Making Herbal Incense with Denise DeSpirito
The burning of plants in ceremony and for health has been a practice for centuries. In this talk Denise will discuss the history of incense and how it can be made from plants that can be grown, or are already growing, in the Maine backyard. Some of the plants discussed will be eucalyptus, bay, sweet Annie, rue, among others. The program will cover how to grow certain plants from seed, how to correctly dry plants, and how to form them into incense cones for home use.
Denise DeSpirito is gardener and herbalist. She has grown herbs all over the Northeast, including Avena Botanicals in Rockport, Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in New York, and Farmacy Herbs in Rhode Island. She currently serves as Garden Manager at Merryspring.
