Merryspring gardener Denise DeSpirito speaks about common poisonous garden plants.
If consumed, many garden plants may be toxic to humans. But they also can bring beauty, pollinators, myth, and magic to our outdoor spaces. Denise will speak about a few of these plants, including foxglove, aconite, castor, and datura, among other examples, that grow at Merryspring and in many backyard gardens. Along with providing colorful photo examples, the presentation will include historical uses of these plants and how to grow them… if you dare!
DeSpirito is both gardener and herbalist. She has grown herbs all over the Northeast, including Avena Botanicals in Rockport, Stone Barns Center for Food and Agriculture in New York, and Farmacy Herbs in Rhode Island. She currently serves as Garden Manager at Merryspring.
