American Unagi with Kathleen Marciano – March 2

Kathleen Marciano of American Unagi will lead an online presentation about the natural history of the American eel and their use in Maine aquaculture hosted by Merryspring Nature Center on Tuesday, March 2 at 12:00 pm.
The American eel is a fish with a fascinating life history that still mystifies scientists. Kathleen Marciano will speak about the life cycle of the American eel, their cultural significance around the world, and why they are such a valued species in Maine and abroad. She will also speak about American Unagi, a midcoast Maine-based eel aquaculture company formed in 2014 and their work to cultivate and bring awareness to this enigmatic species.
Marciano works as Production Manager of American Unagi. She holds a master’s degree in Aquaculture from Auburn University in Alabama and a bachelors degree in Marine Science from the University of Maine. She has worked in aquaculture with many species all over North America and previously worked in Northern Michigan for the Department of Natural Resources and Michigan State University raising lake sturgeon.
