Tardigrades with Emma Perry – September 3
September 3rd: 12:00 pm - 1:00 pm
Dr. Emma Perry of Unity College speaks about her research on the tiny world of tardigrades.
Part of the Summer Talk series, co-sponsored by The First National Bank and RE/MAX Jaret & Cohn Real Estate
Tardigrades, also known as water bears or moss piglets, are almost everywhere on Earth- even the Moon. These micro-animals with eight legs are famous for their ability to withstand all sorts of extreme conditions including heat, cold, radiation and indeed the vacuum of space. In this presentation, Dr. Emma Perry will speak about these animals and how they can be found, their life cycle, and how they survive such extreme conditions. She will also speak about some of her recent discoveries through her research at Unity College, and will even show some water bears collected at Merryspring.
Dr. Emma Perry is a Professor of Marine Biology at Unity College, where she studies tardigrades and other lesser-known marine invertebrates. She holds a PhD in Biology from the University of Southern Florida and a B Sc in Zoology from the University of Exeter in the UK.
